How the investment calculator works

This tool combines two formulas: compound interest on your initial lump sum plus the future value of an annuity for your regular monthly contributions.

FV = P(1 + r)n + PMT × [ (1 + r)n − 1 ] / r
  • FV — future value
  • P — initial principal
  • PMT — monthly contribution
  • r — monthly interest rate (annual ÷ 12)
  • n — total number of months

Example: $10,000 invested with $500 monthly contributions at 7% annual return for 20 years grows to approximately $273,000.

Use it to: project portfolio growth, compare investment strategies, or see the impact of increasing your monthly contributions.
